Ms. Toppel has successfully tried jury trials and various forcible detainer trials.

She was born in Winnipeg, Ontario ( Canada), and moved to Phoenix in 1985 before enrolling at the University of Colorado for her undergraduate work in sociology. She is married and has two sons.
